This side table synthesizes three bold materials: quartz, walnut, and brass. Curves repeated throughout the form develop a sense of unity, softening the contrast from one material to the next. The final construction was effectively directed by material limitations - scraps. I cut, shaped, and polished the stone top and wooden base out of discarded material from local manufacturers. Brass components filled in where the other two media were limited: a brass plate was customized to cover electrical wiring, while brass pins reinforce the wooden structure. A light source below the stone top highlights the qualities of all 3 elements, while also revealing the captivating translucency of the quartz top.
